Spread of drug-resistant superbugs surging, WHO warns

WHO and Superbugs

The World Health Organization (WHO) has given a warning about the spread of “superbugs” - bacteria that do not die when people take medicine. Researchers tested many types of bacteria in laboratories. They found that about 1 in 6 (around 17%) were resistant to antibiotics. This means the medicine did not kill them.

For many years, antibiotics have saved lives. But now, this problem could be dangerous for our health. Even small cuts or common infections could become deadly in the future because antibiotics might stop working. The WHO said these results are very worrying. It also said that as antibiotic resistance increases, more people’s lives will be in danger.
